Stunning scenery and quirky touches at Aerona self-catering cabin in West Wales

Back in spring, we stayed at Aerona, a beautiful little self-catering property set high on a hill on a working organic farm in West Wales.

From the outside it looked very ‘Hobbitish’ with its wooden clad exterior, octagonal windows, and a living roof. Inside though, it was anything but Hobbitish, just stylish, incredibly comfortable and warm.

The one room was ample and spacious, with a large king-sized bed in the middle covered with gorgeous cushions and Welsh blankets. To the side of the bed was a pull out ply bunk bed where my boys loved hanging out, reading or watching the stars through the sky light above.

Two comfy chairs sat either side of the all important log burner, and on the opposite side of the room was a well-equipped open-plan kitchen and a large dining table with views across the valley. I loved the quirky industrial touches; the main chandelier was made of Edison light bulbs fixed to a bike wheel.

The beautiful Cardigan coast is just fifteen minutes away. But if you don’t feel like venturing far, the scenery on the doorstep is stunning. From the kitchen window we watched newborn lambs frolicking in the field and the clouds drifting across the valley below; a view of epic proportions. We took the boys on the ‘welly walk’ around the beautifully maintained farm, down the valley to the stream and back up through the fields.

A perfect base for a weekend escape.
